Using the Assignments Feature

What is it? An Assignment allows students to submit text or files that are automatically routed to the grade center, from where instructors can download submissions and assign grades.  The Assignments feature replaces Digital Drop Box functionality.

Create an Assignment:

Go to the Content Area where you want the assignment to appear

In the Content Area, make sure you’re in Edit View or have entered through the Control Panel.

Click the arrow on the Select box and select Assignment from the menu.

Click the Go button.  The Add Assignment window comes up.

Enter the name of the assignment in the Name box.

In the Points Possible Box enter the number of points for the assignment.

Optional: To set a due date, check the Due Date box and click the arrows on the boxes to select a date.

Enter text instructions for the Assignment in the Instructions box.

Optional: To attach a file, click the Browse button next to the Attach local file box.  Locate and select the file you want to attach and click the Open button.  Enter or select additional file options in the Content section.  Warning: Attaching a file to an assignment will count against the file size quota.  If your quota has been exceeded an error message will Submit appear when you attempt to attach the file and file attachment will be prevented.

Select options to Make the Assignment Available, Track Number of Views and Choose Date Restrictions.

Click the Submit button and click the OK button.

Viewing results: Grading of assignments can be performed in the assignment’s column in the Grade Center

Click on the double down arrow in the column header where the name of the assignment appears.  Choose to download assignments.

To grade, you can click the cell in the assignment’s column where you want to add the grade.  Enter the grade and press the Enter key.

Note: To add a comment to a grade, click the arrow on the cell that contains the grade and select Add Comment from the resulting menu.  Enter comments in the Feedback to User (student viewable) and Grading Notes (not viewable by students) boxes and click the Submit button.
