WAC and the CPE
The CUNY Proficiency Examination (CPE) – an academic literacy
exam that community college students must pass to receive a diploma,
and senior college students must pass to advance beyond 60 credits
– was conceived at roughly the same time as the WAC initiative.
While WAC is not designed solely as preparation for the CPE, it is
reasonable to think that students are more likely to succeed on this
very high-stakes exam if they have experience with writing in discipline
courses and not simply in English composition.
For information about the exam, go to http://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/cpe,
or contact BMCC's CPE Coordinator, Miriam Delgado, mdelgado@bmcc.cuny.edu
